Bright garden décor ideas
Make simple changes to your outdoor space to create a great look this summer
You don’t have to spend a fortune on landscape gardening or weeks of back-breaking soil shifting to create a lovely new view from your windows.
Five décor ideas for your garden
• The wooden-frame greenhouse. Instead of metal, choose a wooden framed greenhouse and notice immediately how elegant it looks in your garden. They are not cheap (B&Q have cute little one for £299, but they do go up to around £900), but they look amazing.
• Wall art. Don’t forget that the back of the house (and any boring shed walls) could always do with livening up. There are lovely sundials, mirrors and even clocks especially designed for outdoor use. Try The Worm That Turned, a great online shop.
• Funky bird feeders. The bright and colourful designs from Garden Divas look great and can be easily refilled. Birdie Bistro is a simple design which looks like a bird house but which is actually a bright yellow, blue or red roof and floor frame with an edible block of seeds and nuts especially chosen to attract birds and insects. £15.95 each.
• Solar water features. Not only are these eco-friendly, but they save the hassle of getting professionally-laid outdoor electrical cabling. From wishing wells and Romanesque fountains to simple bird baths, a good place for ideas is www.1000waterfeatures.co.uk.
• Wind chimes. Try adding to the scenery with something natural, like wind chimes made form wood, or even shells. These add a magical tone to the garden sounds created by the wind, and wildlife. Try the Wind Chime Shop.
Savvy tip
Give weather-beaten wooden garden furniture a life. Sand it down gently, clear off dust with a damp cloth, then paint with a primer coat, and when dry, a top coat (both paints must be suitable for exterior use). Brush in the direction of the wood grain for a smoother finish.
