Six ways to winter-proof your hair

Six ways to winter-proof your hair

Keep your locks looking luscious whatever the weather throws at you

Cold blustery weather, central heating, our addiction to our heated styling tools… there’s no doubt that the winter months can take their toll on our hair.

These simple tricks will really help keep your hair in tip-top condition and ensure you look your very best at all those Christmas parties.

1. Hats are your friend

Okay, this isn’t new news but it’s worth remembering that the most obvious way to protect your hair from the elements is also one of the best.

Terrified of getting the dreaded ‘hat hair’? A light mist of Pantene hairspray will help cut down on static.

2. Wash your hair with care

Don’t wash your hair more often than you need to as this will strip it of those much-needed natural oils. Pantene Dry Shampoo is great for freshening it up in between washes and comes with the added bonus of adding a bit of oomph to lacklustre locks.

When you do jump in the shower, make sure you arm yourself with a shampoo and conditioner that will give your hair a hefty dose of moisture, like Pantene Perfect Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner.

Don’t set foot out of the door with wet hair (brrr!) as the combination of moisture and cold air can make your hair dry and brittle.

3. Treat it to some extra TLC

A weekly deep conditioning treatment can really help to repair some of the damaging effects of winter. Try Pantene Pro-V Repair & Protect Deep Repair Masque which works its magic in just two minutes.

4. Don’t forget what’s on the inside

As well as moisturising your hair from the outside, it’s also important to make sure you drink plenty of water and eat a good diet that’s packed with lots of fruit and vegetables. You should also aim to eat two portions of oily fish a week.

5. Don’t be a stranger at your hairdressers

Getting your hair trimmed regularly is vital to keeping it looking its best. Even if you’re trying to grow it, getting your hairdresser to just take the tiniest amount off will help you avoid split ends and keep your hair looking glossy and full.

6. Go easy on the heat styling

Whereas in the summer we often tend to be happy to let our hair look a little more natural, in the winter months it’s easy to fall into the trap of using our heated styling tools far more often than we should do.

Try to give your hair a break from the heat at least a few days every week and, when you are using your straightening irons or curling tongs, always, always make sure you protect your hair first.
