Erica Davies: Holiday emergencies, covered!

The stylist and fashion writer reveals her secrets to surviving those tricky beauty moments away from home

Quite often I march on holiday so laden down with beauty products that I have to consider excess baggage as a pre-requisite rather than something to be slightly ashamed of.

It’s as though I’m entering a country that has never seen a shop before, let alone seen a woman with a – gasp – beauty regime. Most places, I’ve heard, do actually have a demographic of around 50% women, so in all honesty I need to man up.

This month I am checking out the holiday emergency products that you definitely DO need to take in your suitcase.

In fact, add deodorant and some basic make-up and this magic four will be almost all you need. Hand luggage anyone?

1: GILLETTE VENUS SNAP RAZOR

Well, hello to the cleverest little device I have seen in a while. This is a teeny tiny version of my everyday razor, with the same sized head and a smaller base to hold. But the best bit is that it comes with its own plastic case that would slip easily into your toiletry bag without any added bulkiness. Even better: it gives you the same smooth finish as the big mama version.

2: AUSSIE FRESH MATE BODY WASH

If you love the smell of Aussie shampoo and conditioners you are in for a TREAT with their brand new body wash. In a shampoo-sized bottle (400ml), this will keep your skin fresh, clean and smelling yum on holiday. I absolutely loved this.

3: PANTENE DRY SHAMPOO INSTANT REFRESH

Unless you’re swimming in the pool every day, you really don’t need to worry about washing your hair daily. I use a holiday as a time to experiment with new up-dos and dry shampoo is a godsend for giving a clean look, feel and adding a bit of texture. This smells amazing to boot.

4: OLAY TOTAL EFFECTS 7 IN ONE DAY MOISTURISER

Don’t cart a million different serums, oils, night creams and other lotions – just pick one that will work on everything. The 7-in-1 day moisturiser does just that – including having an SPF of 15. The slightly dewy finish really appeals to my holiday skin ethos of fresh and clean!
