Q&A: Winter beauty SOS with our experts

Winter weather can play havoc with your skin and hair. But there’s no need to hibernate, our experts will help you overcome the beauty blues.

Q1: In winter, my hair looks thin and lifeless. Any tips? Natasha Howells

A: Celebrity Hairstylist and Pantene Global Ambassador, Sam McKnight says: “Dry, damaged, lifeless hair can be caused by a number of factors including, cold blustery weather, central heating, and incessant use of heated appliances.

“In winter, to help avoid further damage to your hair, I would recommend limiting the usage of heated appliances and protecting hair from the elements where possible. If you must use heated appliances minimise damage with a heat protection product prior to use, I would recommend Pantene Pro-V Heat Defence Gloss Spray.

“For lacklustre hair, be prescriptive in your approach. Try products specifically tailored for damaged hair such as Pantene Pro-V Repair & Protect Shampoo and Conditioner, which will help hair look and feel soft, smooth and, most importantly, healthy looking.” For more winter hair care, check out our amazing hair care tips.

Q2: How do I keep my skin from becoming dry throughout the winter? F. Al-Ansare

A: Olay Principal Scientist, Sian Morris says: “The good news is, that if you are happy with your regular moisturiser, there’s no need to swap it as your skin will benefit from year round care with the same ingredients. However, as you’re finding your skin is becoming dry, try layering a hydrating serum such as Olay Regenerist 3 Point Super Serum, underneath your daytime moisturiser for a hydrating boost.

“Secondly, introduce a night cream, as this is the time your skin is most receptive to repair. Olay Regenerist 3 Point Treatment Cream, has the highest concentration of moisturising ingredients in the Olay range, and can be used day and night.”

Q3: I get dark circles under my eyes during the winter. Can you recommend a good eye cream – or an eye-brightening tip? D. Chisholm

A: Olay Principal Scientist, Sian Morris says: “The eye area is extremely delicate because the skin is much thinner in this area. This can lead to dryness and dullness, as well as dark circles that can dim our complexion.

“I would suggest combining hydration, gentle massage and light diffusing particles to add radiance, especially in the winter. Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum, glides on easily due to its silky texture, and will help firm and hydrate the skin around the eyes. Plus, it contains micro-fine golden mineral particles that work like little mirrors to reflect light, helping to disguise dark circles.”
