Sophie Ellis-Bextor reveals her beauty confidence tips

The singer, songwriter and model shares the secrets behind her stunning look and tells us about her favourite feel-good beauty products

With a recording career, touring and four kids to take care of, Sophie Ellis-Bextor is one busy lady. Yet she always manages to look serene and gorgeous. So, naturally, we were dying to know her beauty and lifestyle secrets. Here’s the inside scoop!

My beauty style

My make-up artist is Nikki Palmer. She has taught me to be bold with colour, and how to do hairstyles. Whenever I am doing gigs, I put heated rollers in, as I love curly hair, but it doesn't last longer than an hour. Nikki's been working with me for five years. I'm quite loyal like that. It's my top tip for success – to recognise that if a working relationship is good, you should nurture it.

My dinner party ideas

I love cooking. I read Nigel Slater cookbooks in bed. The first time I did Christmas dinner, I used Jamie Oliver's recipes, and they were brilliant. When we have a dinner party, I have a pork dish where I put the meat in the oven overnight and cook it for 14 hours on a low heat, so it falls off the bone. When cooking for a large group, I do as much as I can before everyone arrives. Then, when everyone arrives, I can have a glass of wine with them. I always felt that eating together was more about quality time together than making an amazing meal.

How I maintain a work-life balance

I love staying at home in my pyjamas and being with my baby, Ray, removed from the world. Our nanny, Claire, has been with us since my eldest son was four months old. I couldn't function without her – she’s my biggest luxury. I also rely on my husband, my dad, my mum, my sister, my brother! One thing I learnt early on is if someone offers to help, accept it.

My favourite books and music

Recently I've been working on my fifth album inspired by 1960s French Music and 1970s love songs. I enjoy listening to Beach House, plus the latest albums by Bon Iver, Ed Harcourt and Phoenix. When it comes to reading, I'd recommend Hangover Square, which is set in 1930s London. It's dark and really well-written.

The Silk-expert is a delight

The Silk-expert is a delight

My opinion of the Braun Silk-expert has gone from strength to strength, it's been so easy to use and a delight to try out, I have been delighted with the results over the last 4 weeks and I'm so happy with the fact I am seeing less hair grow and at a slower rate than usual. This is a great product and really has changed the way I feel about IPL in a positive way! Thanks Braun.
