Modern Mum Beauty Must-Have: Simple hairstyle tweaks to get you through January

Stylist and fashion journalist Erica Davies offers her solutions to battling the January blues with the help of fabulous hair

January is probably the toughest month of the whole year isn’t it? No money after the Christmas splurge, the aftermath of too many wine-filled nights in (or out) taking its toll and yep, it’s generally freezing cold and gloomy too. I struggle to find the time to even visit the hairdresser, or more honestly, I can’t afford to spend the money on going.

So, this month I’m looking at the best (and most affordable) hair products to give you a boost through the difficult first month.

Herbal Clearly Naked Shampoo and Conditioner

I was super excited about trying out this new shampoo and conditioner, which contains absolutely no silicones, parabens or other sulphates which coat your hair. Plus the smell (grapefruit and mint in the volume shampoo, white tea and mint in the shine conditioner) is INCREDIBLE. As a result, it obviously doesn’t lather up as much as my usual shampoos, but you get a great squeaky-clean sensation after rinsing, which I loved. Plus it left my hair salon shiny afterwards – result!

Pantene Pro-V Volume Booster Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is my total saviour for days when I simply have not got time to wash my hair, let alone style it afterwards. Even though I don’t need any extra volume, I tried the Volume Booster spray, as I love the sensation of bounce when I want to tie my hair up. This is great, it gives a fab amount of body and meant that up-dos like a topknot or side-sweep ponytail is much easier to do. And your parting looks clean, rather than greasy.

Pantene Pro-V Advanced Keratin Repair Split-End Fuser

This one is a product I have used before – and on dry hair, it works a treat. For flyaway strands or split ends that go a bit fuzzy, you just need a pea-sized amount and run it over the ends of your hair. It’s perfect if you’re a couple of weeks away from being able to get to the hairdresser but desperately need a trim – or if you have a night out and want a really sleek finish.
