What men really think about … the natural beauty look

Do men really love the natural look or are they secretly hankering after a glamorous bombshell? We turned detective to find out once and for all.

It’s become a common refrain: men who say they don’t care about make-up and prefer a “natural look”. Of course, we know that by “natural” they mean subtle foundation and delicate touches of colour – a look we took years to perfect! But we can’t help wondering if they’re just trying to show that they’re sensitive modern men. Can we be sure they wouldn’t prefer a sexy and dramatic femme fatale look?

To find out, we polled 10 men to find out whether a natural look was a no-no or a “hell, yeah!” The results were clear: 80% loved subtle, fresh-faced make-up. After running the numbers, we sat down with the guys for some real talk.

FOR:

“I’m not sure guys really over-analyse whether someone is overly made up or not,” says Danny Whatmough, from New Zealand. “However, if someone looks as though they have really caked on the make-up then it stands out in a negative way. If you can get away with no make-up and look great, then I’d say go for it!”

“I think that make-up should be about accentuating and emphasising the way you look naturally, rather than concealing it,” says Tom Cornish from Chester. “So I think that the no make-up look is the best way to showcase natural beauty. That being said, I can totally understand why women would want to wear make-up to draw attention to their best features.”

ON THE FENCE:

“I’ll sit on the fence on this – I think this is very situational and dependent on the woman herself. If the woman is naturally beautiful then the fresh-faced ‘just got out of bed look’ is cool for a casual day,” says Danny Shine from Manchester. “Overall I personally prefer a girly girl and think that make-up is a big part of that. Just some simple eye make-up is enough and you’re good to go.”

So there we have it: a resounding vote of confidence for the subtle glamour of the natural look. Try starting off with Olay Regenerist CC Cream: it combines sun protection, anti-ageing moisturiser and a skin-perfecting foundation for a smooth, fresh-faced look. Finish the look with a soft pink lipstick and a touch of blusher to warm your complexion.

I personally love a groomed look myself with a fair bit of makeup but my partner prefers me with no makeup or very minimal natural makeup. Which is great when I can't be bothered to get made up but when I want to its for me not him!

From a personal point of view, my partner loves my look without make up, but every so often when i do put some on, I opt for a glam but neutral look. He says it suits me better than what he calls 'caking it on'. Admittedly when i do wear make up, it's for me, not him but i do appreciate his compliments

My opinion of the Braun Silk-expert has gone from strength to strength, it's been so easy to use and a delight to try out, I have been delighted with the results over the last 4 weeks and I'm so happy with the fact I am seeing less hair grow and at a slower rate than usual. This is a great product and really has changed the way I feel about IPL in a positive way! Thanks Braun.
