How I nailed autumn’s no hairstyle hairstyle

I know what you’re thinking: No hair haircare sounds like an oxymoron. But believe me, the newest mood in hair grooming is all about looking as though you’ve done well, nothing. Yet as with all minimalist looks, natural is often the hardest to pull off. According to experts like hair stylist, Ben Cooke, there is a formula to this new authentic aura in hair, and it all comes down to some tiny behind the scenes grooming tricks. In other words, the devil is in the detail. The fuzz taming brush, a perfectly timed trim, the right shampoo for your hair…think primary school hair; naturally healthy looking and shiny. Armed with the recommended tools and some insider know-how, I spent a week trialling the art of barely-there hair grooming.

As one who’s relentlessly attached to long hair, it requires little styling on a day to day basis. However, there’s been a subtle shift in hair looks of late. Real looking locks are back on the radar but it’s no longer a beach tousled LA look that women are aspiring to. Think natural but glossy, real but not messy….in other words this is a look that needs grooming. First thing I did was book in with my hairdresser for a trim. And herein lies the secret – no more choppy ends, this time I went for a straight across finish. When the ends are neat, your hair looks neat.

Next I fell back in love with the art of brushing. I went in between my old school Mason & Pearson natural bristle brush which gives a soft uniform shine to the surface of hair and I played with Braun’s Satin Hair 7 Iontec Brush RRP £28.99. Both gave good results, but as one that suffers from frizz around my hairline, I found myself addicted to Braun’s high tech powers to smother static and flyaways.

Finally, I liberally applied a hair mask and took to wrapping my hair up in an old t-shirt while it did its work– I’ve been assured that using cotton rather than a towel helps stops hair from breaking, alleviating the frizz factor as all that rubbing can ruffle the surface of the hair shaft. My favourite mask came courtesy of Pantene’s Pro-Expert range. I urge you to try the Advanced Keratin Repair 2 Minute Mask RRP £6.99.

The result of all this? Hair that looked like I’d been resting in a spa resort for a week. Like I’d done nothing - but so say my friends and colleagues, something was different, better, healthier looking, glossier. They just couldn’t put their finger on it. Mission accomplished.

The Silk-expert is a delight

The Silk-expert is a delight

My opinion of the Braun Silk-expert has gone from strength to strength, it's been so easy to use and a delight to try out, I have been delighted with the results over the last 4 weeks and I'm so happy with the fact I am seeing less hair grow and at a slower rate than usual. This is a great product and really has changed the way I feel about IPL in a positive way! Thanks Braun.
