Skincare Q&A

Q&A: Sexy Summer Skin

Our skin experts answer your questions on achieving sexy, summer skin.

Q: Is it possible to boost skin glow?
A: Makeup artist Caroline Barnes explains, ‘Exfoliating your skin will give it a smooth polished surface and help the skin to reflect more light, whilst shedding the top layer of dead skin cells to reveal a brighter surface underneath. Just make sure that you use SPF afterwards, as skin is more sensitive to sun damage after exfoliating. Try: Olay Essentials Exfoliating Scrub £2.49Olay face scrub

Q: My skin gets dehydrated in the sun - can you help?
A: Principal Scientist, Frauke Neusser says, ‘Moisture is important to prevent dehydration, but also because the natural barrier function of the skin is compromised if hydration levels fall below a certain threshold. Avoid heavy, pore clogging formulations though to allow skin to sweat, which is the natural cooling-down mechanism.’

Q: How can I treat pigmentation caused by the sun?
A: Dermatologist Ginny Hubbard says, ‘Protection from the sun is vital to prevent pigmented spots. Treatments can fade pigmentation but it costs time and money to fade sunspots. I recommend SPF 50 plus UVA protection everyday. Apply it after your daily moisturizer.’ Try: Olay Regenerist UV Defense Regenerating Lotion SPF 50Olay Anti-aging Cream

Q: Apart from SPF what’s the best way to protect skin from the ageing effects of the sun?
A: Principal Scientist, Frauke Neusser suggests, ‘Before and after sun exposure, load up your skin with antioxidants (for example, vitamins E and C) which will mop up free radicals, the main aggressors produced by UV radiation. This way, any UV rays that get past SPF protection can be quenched more effectively (think of it as the 2nd line of defense). Also, eating lots of antioxidant-rich foods like tomatoes and berries has been shown in studies to protect against sun damage.’

Q: In summer, I get more spots due to my oily skin and using additional sun creams. What’s best for breakouts?
A: Makeup artist Caroline Barnes says, ‘I think tea tree oil is the most effective way of getting rid of spots - it’s very powerful yet it doesn’t dry the skin so it enables you to cover blemishes. Blocked pores can be the cause, especially in summer when we are layering on sun creams. So, I would recommend exfoliating regularly with a facial wash that contains AHA’s or papaya. Or use a deep cleansing clay mask once a week to draw out impurities.’

The Silk-expert is a delight

The Silk-expert is a delight

My opinion of the Braun Silk-expert has gone from strength to strength, it's been so easy to use and a delight to try out, I have been delighted with the results over the last 4 weeks and I'm so happy with the fact I am seeing less hair grow and at a slower rate than usual. This is a great product and really has changed the way I feel about IPL in a positive way! Thanks Braun.
