The good feet guide for men

The good feet guide for men

Whether your man wears sandals or not, keeping his feet in good shape is a health issue as well as an aesthetic one

Athlete’s foot

Do not ignore this common fungal infection and hope it simply goes away: leaving it unchecked can lead to toenail infections and it can even spread to your hands. It’s easy enough to treat mild cases at home as it responds well to over-the-counter treatments such as powders, creams and sprays.

Careful, regular washing and drying of your feet, combined with wearing clean, cotton socks and allowing your feet to air especially after exercise can help prevent athlete’s foot.

Fungal nail infections

Check your toenails frequently for this common condition, which is easily spotted because of the discolouration and thickening it causes. Not only does it look unsightly, it can quickly spread to neighbouring nails if left untreated, and ultimately the whole nail can become detached. Think pain too. Do not ignore.

It takes time to treat, but a fungal nail infection generally responds well to home medication – nail paint and regular filing. Just make sure you follow the whole course or it will be back to the drawing board.

Hairy toes

One advantage of having hairy toes: they are a sign of good circulation. However, if your hirsute trotters tend towards the Bilbo Baggins end of the spectrum, it’s fine to take action.

Your easiest option is to give your toes a regular once-over with a razor while you’re shaving. Gillette’s range offers something for every need.

Verrucas

Verrucas are simply warts that develop on your feet: small rough lumps caused by a virus. Their location can be painful. Remember the days when sufferers had to wear a ‘verruca sock’ in the swimming pool? That’s no longer the case, a plaster is sufficient. It’s a good idea though for everyone to wear flip-flops in the showers at the pool or gym to avoid catching an infection.

Home verruca treatments are notoriously unreliable, so consult your doctor if you’re desperate to get rid of your infection. Otherwise it will generally clear up of its own accord within a few months.

Callouses

You might be a hot man, but unless you look after them on a regular basis, odds are you’ve got horny, calloused heels. If you regularly go barefoot or don’t wear socks, you can probably add cracks and fissures to the list.

They look horrid and can be painful too, but it’s an easy condition to manage. You need to treat and feed your gnarly heels: after your bath or shower, simply rub down rough areas with a pumice stone or heel file (you can buy these at the pharmacy) then apply softening/conditioning foot cream. Put a sock over the top while it soaks in for faster results.

My opinion of the Braun Silk-expert has gone from strength to strength, it's been so easy to use and a delight to try out, I have been delighted with the results over the last 4 weeks and I'm so happy with the fact I am seeing less hair grow and at a slower rate than usual. This is a great product and really has changed the way I feel about IPL in a positive way! Thanks Braun.
