Special dates for the diary

Early September
Back to school

The exact date varies depending on where you are in the country and what school your child is at, but all mums will know September means it’s back-to-school time (and will probably be commiserating and rejoicing in equal measure). For tips on getting organised for the new term, check out our Shopping checklist and Tricks for a stress-free morning routine.

Saturday September 9
Teddy Bear Day

September 9 is the day the teddy bears have their picnic, so get your kids to grab their favourite furry friend, spread out a blanket and tuck into these budget-friendly homemade picnic treats.

Tuesday September 19
Talk like a pirate day

This day does what it says on the tin, but why not go all out and let your kids dress up as pirates, and enjoy fish and chips for dinnarrrr. It’ll be great for you, too, as you can threaten that they’ll have to walk the plank if they don’t tidy their rooms!

Film and book releases

Thursday September 7
(Book) Birthday Boy, by David Baddiel

The majority of birthdays in the UK fall in September, so if your little one was the fruit of some festive fun, this Birthday Boy book will make the perfect present (if they’re aged nine or above). Written by comedian David Baddiel, it follows Sam Green, who loves birthdays so much he wishes he had one every day… but quickly learns you should be careful what you wish for!

Wednesday September 20
(Film) Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Your Marvel-loving teen has probably been awaiting the release of Kingsman: The Secret Service’s sequel, and so here it is. Starring Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Halle Berry alongside the younger starlets, you’ll be happy to escort your teen to check out this slick and action-packed film.

Thursday September 28

If your little superhero is still quoting the Batman Lego Movie, they’ll love this book, which includes a mini-figure, sticker book and exclusive “behind-the-scenes” info. As Lego Batman would say, it is “off the chain”.

September events

Saturday September 2 & Sunday September 3
St Annes International Kite Festival

Is it a bird? No! Is it a plane? No! It’s a giant flying octopus! Spot this and many more creature-shaped kites at the St Annes International Kite Festival in Lancashire. There’s also fireworks, live music, a children’s funfair and donkey rides, making this the perfect way to spend a day at the coast.

Sunday September 3-Sunday September 10
Tour of Britain

Setting off in Edinburgh, making its way down to Hemel Hempstead and then across for the final stage from Worcester to Cardiff, no matter where you live in the UK, you can probably catch a glimpse of the Lycra-clad legs peddling a total of 820 miles (1,321km) across seven days. Head along to cheer them on.

Thursday September 7-Sunday September 10
Heritage Open Days

Across these four days, some 5,000 events are being held to celebrate England’s history and culture. Tours and free entry will be available in town halls, churches, theatres, cemeteries and more across the country. Find out what’s happening close to you by clicking here.

Friday September 15-Sunday September 24
Southampton Boat Show

As well as eyeing the gorgeously gleaming yachts, sail boats and speed machines at the Southampton Boat Show, the whole family can enjoy the event, with bumper boats, sailing lessons for kids and the chance to climb aboard a tall ship.

I'm so pleased with Pampers Baby Dry! The Sensitive Wipes smell great and the nappies keep my baby dry all night. Not only that, they aren't as bulky, have cute designs and are stretchy. All round - great!
