Ideas for family days out in the summer holidays

Week 4: Ideas for family days out in the summer holidays

Looking for inspiration to keep the kids entertained this summer holiday? Then check out our favourite family days out.

There’s something for everyone from days at home, countryside adventures to museums and festivals. The only problem will be choosing which one of these brilliant activities for kids to do first.

  •  Plan day trips to the countryside. There are lots of family friendly walks and places to go exploring all over the country including the beautiful Lake District, Peak District, Norfolk, New Forest and Devon. Take a picnic and a plant/tree/ bird spotting book to make a day of it. Visit the National Trust or English Heritage websites to find a location near you.
  • Summer city fun. Check out bus tours around a big city near you. I bet there is somewhere local that is on your doorstep that you haven’t visited. Most companies have discounted family tickets. Check local websites for details.
  • Museums and Exhibitions make great family days out. Here’s just a few of our favorites

National Space centre, Leicestershire. Bursting with interactive fun for kids to discover. There are special guests on Fridays throughout the summer.

Deep Sea World, Fife, Scotland. Boasts one of the largest collections of sharks in Europe. You can even stand under a water tunnel as they swim above you or watch the weekly piranha feeds. It’s a frenzy!  This is top of our to do list.

Longleat Safari park,Wiltshire .Go on the deadly safari and see how many predators you can spot or take the drive through experience and see zebras, lions rhinos, giraffes, wolves and ‘meddling monkeys’. Great for your own cheeky monkeys.

Go Ape! At venues all over the country. Zip wires, Tarzan swings and rope bridges are the name of the game for anyone over the age of 10. Not for the faint hearted or those scared of heights! These hire wire courses are up in the trees for a heart racing experience. I did this last year and it was absolutely thrilling. I felt very brave afterwards.

Beamish Open air museum, Durham. This museum is a set of buildings which take you back to the North East of England in Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian times. There are shops and houses to see as well as trams to ride on too. I visited Beamish when I was about 10 years old (let’s just say that’s a long time ago now) It left such an impression on me that I can’t wait to take my girls this month. I learnt a lot.

Ambi Pur 3volution banishes unwanted odours!

Within minutes Ambi Pur 3volution's scent makes its way round the whole of my house, banishing the doggy pong! I was slightly worried as most air freshners / candles/ oil burners we have tried leave me with a headache , but this is so subtle as well as doing a great job. Even my mum, who always comments about the smell of 'dog' , has said how nice our house is smelling!
