Q&A with Kermit the Frog

This spring Kermit the Frog returns to the big screen for his eighth major motion picture in Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted.”

With a show business career which spans over six decades he’s got a lot to talk about. To celebrate the UK release of Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted”, in cinemas from March 28th, we were delighted to hear that Kermit himself would be happy to do an intimate Q&A and share some insights from the show.

What is Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” about?

While the Muppets are on an international tour to places like Spain, Germany and England something awful happens—to me.

Y’see, the World’s Number One criminal, Constantine, just happens to be a frog. And he looks almost exactly like me. He takes my place and I take his place—in a gulag. After that, thanks to Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, Tina Fey and a host of cool cameos—and the Muppets, of course—hilarity, intrigue and action ensue. Gee, that sounds exciting. I wonder what happens?

What is your role in the film?

I play the role I’ve trained for my whole life. I’m Kermit the Frog. But this is me like you’ve never seen me, where you’ve never seen me before—in prison. Ulp!

Describe your working relationship with Tina Fey.

Tina is fantastic and so funny. My only problem was that she really gets into character, and the character she plays, Nadya, is the head of the prison. I really don’t think it was necessary to leave me locked up when we finished shooting each night. But what can I say: she’s an artist.

Will you finally tie the knot with Miss Piggy in this film?

I really can’t say. You’ll have to see the movie to find out.  Or ask Miss Piggy, who will definitely tell you “yes”.

Who is Constantine?

Constantine is the World’s Number One Criminal. (I wonder who votes on these things?) He also is a frog who looks almost exactly like me—and uses our Muppets world tour to cover up his nefarious criminal scheme.

Why should people see this film?

It’s got laughs, action, foolishness, nonsense and all that Muppets stuff. Plus, it’s got fantastic stars—Ricky [Gervais], Ty [Burrell] and Tina [Fey], plus all those great cameos! And, to top it off, Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” features all-new songs by Bret McKenzie, who won an Oscar® for best song for “Man or Muppet,” which he wrote for our last movie.  But most of all, you should see it because Miss Piggy is in it. And trust me: she’ll be taking attendance.

About the movie

Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid, Dublin and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit the Frog—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. The film stars Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon and Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard. Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” is directed by James Bobin and produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Bobin wrote the screenplay with Nicholas Stoller, who is also executive producer with John G. Scotti. Featuring music from Academy Award®-winning songwriter Bret McKenzie, “Muppets Most Wanted”  hits the big screen March 28, 2014.
