A Weekend Away!

Millie, Badly Drawn Mum

We did it! We finally did it! Yep, we had a weekend away without the kids. And (oh, but I feel guilty for saying so) it was amazing. Dave and I found a place online. Nothing too crazy expensive (a posh pub, really) but stylishly done, with antlers on the wall and fancy muesli for breakfast.

Dave made me laugh so much. It’s quite sweet really. He gets properly over excited about staying anywhere that isn’t home and the first thing he always does is order room service. He doesn’t know what he’s going to order, mind. It’s a lottery. Saturday at 10:12 am he ordered a pot of tea and a plate of chips. Ha!

My favourite bit, apart from the uninterrupted lie-ins, was the super-king-size bed. It was one of those you have to throw a dozen cushions off before you can climb in. The linen was white, smells gorgeous and was entirely free of toast crumbs.

I’ve never quite mastered the art of the perfectly made bed. I’m not sure what the secret is, but it turns out there’s more to it than lobbing on a duvet and a couple of pillows. It seems to involve endless layers of blankets and artfully folded throws. Either way, it was bliss.

And the towels! Huge, fluffy bath sheets that wrap you up like a hug. Made a note to self to buy extra fabric softener – because that, if nothing else, is something I can recreate at home.
