Happy ideas for teenagers

Break your routines by adding a little fun to home life with your teen. You might have gone from being the sort-it mum who does everything for your child to being a bystander as your teenager goes his or her own way, but you can still create good times for your teenager.

Three ideas to try:

1. A space for friends.
Teens need time together to explore being adults without you making them self-conscious. Inviting friends to your home is preferable to hanging out on street corners. If your child doesn’t have a big bedroom, maybe suggest there’s one night each week when they get the lounge to themselves to invite mates over. That way you don’t clash when different family members want the space at the same time.

2. Spa or training day.
Allow your teen to put school work aside for a day and invite a friend over for a day’s pampering – let them raid your creams and lotions, suggest they have an activity like swimming or cycling, and devise their own ‘spa menu’ for lunch and dinner. If you have a son, perhaps approach it more as a ‘training’ day with activities and nutritious meals.

3. Extreme fun.
Teenagers want to push their new found freedom to its limits. Help them get this out of their system in a safe way by joining a sports club where they can develop new skills whilst doing something thrilling.

Savvy tip
Give your teen more power over their own diet by designating kitchen tools or a shelf in the cupboard to them specifically. For example, buy them their own smoothie maker – an easy, healthy way for teenagers to improvise their own breakfasts or snacks from the fridge.

Pass it on – invite a favourite relative to stay
Your teenager probably connects happily with a cousin or an aunt or uncle they deem to be far more ‘hip’ than boring old mum and dad! Invite this relative for a weekend and make sure they get at least some quality time with your teen. It’s a great way of keeping your teenager close to family.

My daughter is part of a youth club . I never wanted her to go as i was worried that there were to many teenagers. I was wrong she loves it and it has made her much more sociable and confident. So glad now

My opinion of the Braun Silk-expert has gone from strength to strength, it's been so easy to use and a delight to try out, I have been delighted with the results over the last 4 weeks and I'm so happy with the fact I am seeing less hair grow and at a slower rate than usual. This is a great product and really has changed the way I feel about IPL in a positive way! Thanks Braun.
