We all have things we dream of doing, but sometimes it’s hard to find the confidence and motivation to get started. The good news is that there are simple steps to achieving your goals that can really help.

And it’s well worth making sure you do because doing something new not only benefits your health and wellbeing, but even feeds your mental and physical energy for all your regular tasks.

1. Goal setting

Whether it’s about home, family, work or self-improvement, take your challenge seriously. Research what you need to do, including considering who else has achieved that goal before you and what qualities they had which helped them along the way. Itemise these steps to find a route towards your own goal.

2. Commit time

Committing to a set time each week to work on your project allows you to organise the rest of your life around it.

3. Be creative

When brainstorming, come up with ten creative ideas instead of five or six – some of the ideas might not be as strong as others but it helps you develop lateral ways of approaching a task and can lead in surprisingly useful new directions.

4. Motivate yourself with a photo

Even when you feel tired and stressed, remind yourself that change is an adventure and your energy and enthusiasm will quickly return. Find a photo of yourself that you love because you look really happy in it and stick this on the fridge as a daily reminder of what you’re aiming for.

5. Make small changes

Small changes can make a big difference to your confidence and mood. It could be as simple as a gorgeous new soap in the bathroom or a change of hairstyle or lipstick colour.

6. Have fun

Build up your enthusiasm and energy levels by making some time for doing things you know you enjoy. This will keep you feeling happy and energised while you’re striving to achieve your new goals.

7. Be confident

Women are often very good at self-doubt! It’s important to believe in yourself and feel confident that you’ll succeed.

8. Celebrate your achievements

Judge your progress against your previous work rather than ‘competing’ with other people. Make a note of how far you’ve come by always keeping track of achievements along the way – whether in a diary, on post-it notes above your desk, or even cameraphone snapshots of weekly changes.
