Mother’s Day "Best Advice"

mothers day

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I’ve been asked to share with you some of the wisdom my mum might have passed down to me. She never really sat me down and said “darling, remember this….” Her wisdom was more in the way she acted. Remembering that there are always two sides to one story, for example. Mainly this was to remind me when my brother was driving me up the wall that perhaps, haha, it might be me (heaven forbid! I’m an angel!).

There was once a piece of advice which, while I’m sure is very useful and I have actually tried to follow (when the laundry’s been done at least), left me wondering what situation it might be urgent in! This was “make sure your socks match, you never know when you might have to take your shoes off.” It always seemed to me to be an excellent conversation stopper too!

For the main part though, as I said, I was taught more gentle wisdom by following my mum’s example than any real commandments. The one main thing she taught me was to follow my inner compass and go with my gut instinct regardless of the situation and everyone’s advice. Go with what I strongly felt in my heart and head as nine times of ten that was correct. This lovely advice saved my son’s life. Pregnant at 35 weeks, I knew something was wrong and followed my gut instinct to get checked out.  My consultant confirmed that my son was wedged and I would have needed an emergency C section. As it was,  he took me under his wing and I now have two gorgeous healthy boys. That’s just one of many examples of my mum’s advice ringing true and following my inner compass when things don’t feel right.

My mother always believe that you cannot worth the good time unless you have seen the bad time so do not be scared of bad moments or failures of your life as they will teach you how to enjoy fully your good moments.
