Savvy tips for sensitive skin

Savvy tips for sensitive skin

Anyone can suffer from sensitive skin - from the very young to the elderly; it could be you’re born with it. You can’t change the fact that you have sensitive skin, but you can change the way you look after it and reduce flare-ups by treating it kindly. Read our top tips for calm and cared-for skin.

Drink water
Research shows that dehydrated skin is more vulnerable to infection, sunburn and irritation. So it's crucial to keep your skin hydrated by drinking enough water every day. You should also eat a well balanced diet including five daily portions of fruit and vegetables to help feed your skin the nutrients it needs to stay healthy.

Careful skincare
If you suffer from sensitive skin, look out for skincare products including cleansers and moisturisers which have been specifically designed for a sensitive skin.

Be gentle in your cleansing regime, use cotton wool to apply and remove your cleanser and always remove make-up at night before applying a moisturising night cream for sensitive skin.

Natural fabrics
It's a good idea when your skin is feeling uncomfortable to dress in loose clothing made of soft, natural fabrics. Cotton and silk, for example, allow your skin to breathe more easily. Bear in mind that some fabrics, even if they are natural, such as linen and wool, may be rough and itchy.

Hot and cold
Outside influences can be the worst enemy for sensitive skin - intense hot sun or cold biting wind can play havoc with even 'normal' skin. So it's important to protect yourself against the weather. Indoors, too, your skin could be suffering. Central heating and air conditioning are very drying, making your skin feel more sensitive. Try to keep your indoor temperature at a consistent, comfortable level. In winter, try placing a small bowl of water near a radiator to help humidify the air and keep moisture in your skin.

I would love to recommend Aveeno cream for dry skin. I used this (Aveeno baby) on my baby daughter who suffered from eczema quite badly. Her skin cleared up instantly and is so lovely and soft now.

My opinion of the Braun Silk-expert has gone from strength to strength, it's been so easy to use and a delight to try out, I have been delighted with the results over the last 4 weeks and I'm so happy with the fact I am seeing less hair grow and at a slower rate than usual. This is a great product and really has changed the way I feel about IPL in a positive way! Thanks Braun.
