There are lots of things you associate with ‘that time’ of the month – cramps, chocolate cravings, feeling emotional – but improved performance at the gym isn’t necessarily one of them.

However, studies have shown that hormonal changes at this time can give you a boost in both muscle tolerance and muscle recovery. They can even enhance your performance and could make you feel more powerful during exercise.

That’s all very well you might say, but what if you feel too crampy to part with your hot water bottle? Well, it’s worth bearing in mind that exercise can really help with cramps and lower back pain. But of course the best judge of what’s right for you is you. If you really just feel like hunkering down on the sofa then that’s exactly what you should do.

When you are heading to your spin class though, you want protection you can really trust. Protection like Tampax Compak Active Fresh. They have Leak Guard and Active Fresh technology, which eliminates both leaks and odours for double the protection. Meaning you can forget all about your period.

I usually hug my sofa and feel sorry for myself, but I got dragged to a box fit class by my friend on Monday, and actually I worked harder than ever before, and had less cramps the next day! So I've changed my mind totally about exercise and periods! I've not tried the Compak Active Fresh though, I try to steer clear of compact tampons.........
