What is CLP?
Classification, Labeling and Packaging regulations established by the EU for all chemical products.

Where does the CLP apply?
All EU countries must comply with CLP regulations. Iceland, Norway, Serbia and Switzerland have adopted the program, as well and Israel and Turkey are expected to implement CLP regulations in 2016.

What is required by CLP regulations?
All packaging, from the outer case to individual doses, must be labeled. The labels include new safety and environmental symbols and wording. Classification criteria is stricter and more ingredients must be listed on the packaging.

What are the new symbols and what do they mean?
The old warning symbol was the Saint Andrew cross, a generic international symbol advising caution.

This is being replaced with three new symbols:
The exclamation point warns that a product may cause serious eye or skin irritations.
This symbol warns that a product is caustic and may cause serious eye damage.

This symbol warns that a product can be toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

Questions about the new packaging

Why is there a warning label on the packaging of a product that did not have one before? Has my product changed? Is it safe to use?
Your product has not changed. There are new EU regulations, CLP, that require a warning label on products that did not require them previously. Your product contains chemicals that must be used as directed. The new packaging has been created to remind you how important it is to follow manufacturer recommendations.

Why does my product have a different warning label? Is this product still safe to use?
Your product has not changed. The new EU regulations, CLP, have modified the classification of certain chemicals, with new Safety and Environmental symbols to advise consumers. The product is safe to use while following manufacturer recommendations.

Questions about the new icons

My product has a corrosive warning label. Is it safe to use? Will it damage my washing machine? Why don’t other products that do the same thing have this warning label?
Your product is safe to use when following directions and will not damage your washing machine. We have chosen to start following the CLP guidelines immediately, which is why your product label has already changed.

Why is there an Environmental warning warning that my household product may be toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects?
This warning draws attention to the potential effect of large quantities of non-diluted product. It serves as a warning in case of a large spill. However, it is still important to follow directions when using your product.

Does the Environmental warning symbol with a dead tree and fish mean I am polluting aquatic life?
No. Your product is safe for the environment when used as intended.

Questions about Fabric care products

Why is there information written on the pouch of my fabric care? Why is this not on all of the pouches?
New EU regulations, CPL, require labeling on all packaging, including pouches. Not all the pouches will be labeled immediately. It may take many months for 100% compliance.

The information on my pouch is blurred. Can the product still be used?
Yes, the printing will not effect product performance and the same information is available on your outer packaging, should you have any questions about the safety of your product.

Does the printing on the pouch come off? WIll it stain my clothing?
The printing will not come off on your hands, or stain your clothing is the product is used as directed.

How do I use the pouch? Should I remove the film with the label?
Place the entire pouch, as is, in the back of the washing machine, before adding clothing. Do not remove the label on the film.

Is there a bittering agent in the pouch?
Yes. A bittering agent gives the product a bitter taste that discourages young children and pets from consuming the product and is required by the new EU regulations.

Does the Environmental warning symbol with a dead tree and fish mean my fabric care product is harmful aquatic life?
No. Your product is safe for the environment when used as intended.

Questions about Home care products

The pouches for my Fairy unit dose product look different. What has changed?
New EU regulations, CPL, require labeling on all packaging, including pouches. Not all the pouches will be labeled immediately, and some may have different labeling. It may take many months for 100% compliance.

Has the product changed?
No. Only EU regulations have been modified, requiring a change in packaging.

Is the product still safe?
The product has not changed and there is no change in its safety.

Is the ink on the pouch safe? Could it stain my dishes?
The ink is safe when the pouch is used according to product directions. We have conducted 100 tests at every cycle alternative and the ink will not stain dishes in your dishwasher.

Is there a bittering agent in the pouch?
Yes. A bittering agent gives the product a bitter taste that discourages young children and pets from consuming the product and is required by the new EU regulations.

Why don’t other dishwashing detergents have this warning label?
We have chosen to start following the CLP guidelines immediately, which is why your product label has already changed. It is legal to ship, store and sell goods that do not comply with CLP regulations until June 2017.

No. Your product is safe for the environment when used as intended.
