Rochelle Humes helps Fairy raise £150,000 for Make-A-Wish® UK

Fairy giant bake sale raises over £150,000 for Make-A-Wish® UK with the support of Rochelle Humes

We all know how baking mad Brits have gone, but a giant bake sale held at Westfield proved just how much we love to tuck in to a delicious piece of cake, especially when it is for a good cause.

Raising over £150,000 the funds from a ginormous bake sale hosted by Fairy will go to help Make-A-Wish® UK grant even more wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.

The star of the bake sale, a Tutti Frutti Yule Log, which was found after a nationwide search for the best festive recipe, was created by Vicky Ashley of Bramhall Stockport and devoured by hungry shoppers over three days.

Celebrity presenter and keen baker Rochelle Humes helped to serve the cake and even helped with washing up a few of the plates, which were all cleaned up using just one 780ml bottle of Fairy.

Eager Westfield Christmas shoppers, who were simply asked to make a donation of £1 per slice, queued to try the cake which had been chosen by a judging panel including Rochelle. Fairy then contributed £10 for every plate washed. In total 12,616 plates were washed using just one 780ml bottle of Fairy, to raise a staggering £153,274.81.

Prompted by a poll by Fairy that found that 64% of Brits don’t eat Christmas cake any more, the search for the nation’s best festive cake recipe demonstrated how eccentric British tastes have become. The Tutti Fruiti Yule log was one of five bakes to compete in a head-to-head baking final in London in early November. The finalist’s recipes included Chocolate Cherry Ainse Supreme Cake, Snow White Cake, Chocolate Festive Gingerbread Cupcakes with Cream Cheese and Gingerbread and even a “Snowmen Make Wishes” banana, pineapple and pecan cake.

• £153,274.81 raised
