Chocolate Nut Slice

Ingredients (serves 8 people)

  • For the cake: 125g of dark chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon of orange zest
  • 4 eggs
  • 135g of sugar
  • 125g of soft butter
  • 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • 100g of chopped hazelnuts
  • 100g of crushed nuts
  • For the topping: 400g of sugar
  • 50g of cacao powder
  • 200ml of milk
  • 60ml of butter
  • 1 vanilla pod

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.


  2. Chop the chocolate, add the orange zest and melt it in a bain-marie.


  3. Mix up the egg whites with a pinch of salt, as you’re mixing it up, add 35g of sugar. Keep mixing until it becomes shiny.


  4. Mix the butter and the rest of the sugar (100g).


  5. Stir together the egg yolk, maple syrup and chocolate with the eggs and sugar. Gently mix in the egg whites, hazelnuts and the crushed nuts.


  6. Take a square baking tin (15 x 30 cm), grease it and cover with flour.


  7. Pour the mixture into the tin and put it in the oven on the lowest shelf for about 50 minutes.


  8. After 35 minutes cover it with aluminium foil.


  9. For the topping put the sugar, cacao powder and the milk in a saucepan, bring to the boil while constantly stirring.


  10. Take the pan off the heat and mix in the butter and the vanilla pod.


  11. Then spread the topping over the cake once out of the oven.
