      The easiest and least expensive way of having more light in your home when it’s gloomy outside is to use bright colours for your soft furnishings.

  • Replace your old curtains with brighter ones. Orange, red, pink, striped or even ones with flowers on – choose a fabric that makes you feel happy. Do the same with your tablecloth, place mats or if it’s your regular kitchen table, a wipe-clean PVC fabric you can keep on all the time.

Mix art and nature by positioning bright vases and bowls full of colourful fruit as new focal points.

  • Mix orange and yellow citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, tangerines, grapefruits, add some green and red apples. Add any other colourful fruits you think look good and put them in pretty glass bowls. Having a delicious array of fruits makes them a tempting healthy snack too, so you can all tuck in for essential seasonal vitamins!

Why not display bottles filled with fruits or herbs to give your home décor a foodie theme?

  • Make your own decorative glass bottles by filling them with olive or nut oils then adding long strands of herbs, or use pickle bottles full of little colourful tomatoes. These look great on a mantelpiece or on the kitchen shelf. You can also buy or make potted fruits (apricots or cranberries for example), in old fashioned preserve jars.
