Throwing a great party on a tight budget

Throwing a great party on a tight budget

Entertaining your friends shouldn’t require a special occasion or a budget to blow. For a little over €1 a head, you can create a sense of occasion and really enjoy yourselves

Five nifty ways to get thrifty

1. Do brunch. Lay on a full fry, go continental or cook up a stack of pancakes. Add a few scandal-filled papers to spice up the chat and you have the recipe for the perfect weekend get-together.

2. Throw a pot luck dinner. Make a load of sides and salads and ask your friends to each bring a dish for a pot luck party. You could try a theme – Mexican for example or ‘my favourite dish from childhood’.  Talking of which...

3. Anyone for jelly and ice-cream? Return to old-school, sticky fun - without even having to eat up your greens... Why not get the (big and small) kids in your house to set the table? A paper cloth to scribble on, place mats made out of graph paper, cups marked ‘Ink’... it can all help convey that schooldays vibe.

4. Make like the Mad Hatter. Have a good old-fashioned tea party with cake, scones and jam. Scour the local charity shops for cheap pretty china – you could even serve cocktails in teacups if you’re feeling decadent.

5. Be a Hollywood hero. Hold a film night with a range of finger foods, like mini sausage rolls... And don’t forget the popcorn – even though you’ll be picking it out of the carpet/sofa/dog for days…

Plus a cheap clean up

If there’s extra washing up to do, you can rely on Fairy to help you power through.

With more grease cutting oomph in every drop, Fairy washing up liquid is the perfect kitchen ally. And with up to eight weeks’ worth in every bottle, it cleans up on value too.
