Equip yourself with the right kit
If you’re a nervous newbie, you could start with a “beginner’s cap”, which combines epilation with shaving. The Braun Silk-epil 5 5-511 Starter Kit, for example, epilates 60% of unwanted hair, and shaves the rest with Gillette Venus blades. Using this cap for the first four weeks will help you get used to the feeling of epilation before your commit yourself to it fully.
Alternatively, you could go for an all-out at-home spa experience with the Braun Silk-epil 9 SkinSpa (pictured), which has various attachments enabling it to epilate, exfoliate, massage, shave and trim in one nifty rechargeable gadget.
Prepare your skin with a warm shower to open up your pores. Epilation removes unwanted hair from the root, so open pores will make this much easier.
Move an exfoliating brush or glove across your skin in even circular movements. This will help remove dead skin cells, clearing the way for a smooth epilation experience and glowing skin.
It’s time to go for it! Start by trimming any long hairs to around 3-5mm, as this will help reduce pain because longer hairs are harder to remove. Also, start with small, less delicate sections of your skin to get used to the feeling, gradually building up to larger areas.
And remember, while at first it may feel painful, epilation gives you silky smooth legs for up to four weeks , so you won’t have to epilate very often. Plus, over time, epilation causes hair to thin, so with regular use it will feel easier. Don’t give up!
