The sun is finally shining
Okay so the weather’s a little temperamental, but that just means us Brits embrace the sunshine even more when it does decide to appear. And, while April may have gone from snow to summer in a day, May at least tends to offer a steady increase in temperatures as we head into summer proper – so we can finally say goodbye to our winter coats and hello to floaty dresses and flip-flops. Hoorah!
There’s not one but TWO bank holidays
Nothing beats a long weekend… well, apart from maybe two long weekends! And this year they’re super close together, as May Day falls on Monday May 7, and then the Spring Bank Holiday swiftly follows on Monday May 28. Now all we need to do is pray for some of that sunshine we mentioned...
We can all gawp in wonder at the royal wedding
Whether you’re a royalist or not, many can’t fail to get swept up in the glamour of a royal wedding – especially one that involves the gorgeous Meghan Markle and cheeky chappy Prince Harry. The wedding is taking place on Saturday May 19 in St George’s Chapel, Windsor, and it will be broadcast live on major TV channels. So we can all tune in to see the only thing we care about… what colour of the rainbow the Queen will be wearing. (Oh, and what Meghan’s wedding dress looks like.) If you’ve got an invitation to a glam wedding or two yourself, but you’re on a less-than-royal budget, check out our tips on how to wear the same dress three different ways.
It’s time to dust off the barbecue
One of life’s simple pleasures is eating al-fresco, especially if the food is hot from your barbecue. Just the thought of sizzling sausages is enough to get the mouth watering – but if you’re trying to eat less meat, or simply want to try something different to the usual bangers and burgers, check out our 6 veggie barbecue recipes that even meat eaters will want to try. Aubergine and halloumi parcels? Yes please.
Holibobs are on the horizon
The summer holidays are looming, so it’s time to start thinking about that long-awaited holiday to somewhere sunny and sandy. If you’re a pack-the-hour-before-you-go kind of person, why not check out our pre-holiday beauty checklist, so you can at least be safe in the knowledge that you’re beach ready from top to toe – even if you have left your passport on the coffee table. Oh, and don’t forget your toothbrush! Even better, make it an Oral-B Genius 9000, which comes with a travel case that charges your brush (and your phone!), so you can have sparklingly clean teeth, no matter where you are in the world.
