Trend on Trial: Athleisure hair
Gym hair is about plaits, ponytails, buns...anything easy and fuss-free that won't get in between you and your workout. Athleisure hair, on the other hand, is a far more sophisticated affair. Take athletic and team it with leisure and you've got a sporty look that's chic but relaxed. This I'm told is the corner stone of hair confidence; achieving a groomed look that is occasion-proof, isn't hard work and flits seamlessly between all of life's activities from work to the gym and drinks out. So, for this month's Trend-on-trial I have been on the search for the ultimate athleisure hair style.
What I discovered through trial and error is this: Leaving hair in its wash and go state gives off a relaxed don't-care vibe, whilst manipulating it into a sleek ponytail or top knot is too stern and try-hard. Plus, up-do's of any sort leave you feeling a bit stiff and mirror conscious. So, in my quest for a hair style that embodies athleisure, I arrived at the half straight blow-out. For this look, most of the work is in the prep, not the finish; I double washed my hair and double conditioned to get rid of any build up, then detangled thoroughly with a wide toothed comb. Afterwards, I lightly applied a blow dry spray to prevent my hair from feeling thin and flyway and roughly blow-dryed hair until 90% dry, before reattaching the nozzle to smooth over ends for a semi-groomed finish. Once dry, I applied a light mist of dry shampoo and massaged in with my fingers for added root lift. The verdict: Hair that's occasion and outfit proof carries a certain easiness about it that settles into your whole way of being. It's a bit like owning a pair of chic designer trainers - they go with everything, no matter what the day throws at you.
