There’s no better way to make an entrance than with a big up-do. Celebrity hair stylist, Ben Cooke drops his three rules to making it big.

Texturize first

‘Hair doesn’t stay up easily unless it’s really well textured. This can be done either by tonging hair or inserting heated rollers. This gives hair some bounce and some fullness, a canvas that’s ready to shape.’

Create height at the crown

‘Whatever up-do you go for, a little height at the crown courtesy of a light backcombing, is the secret to nailing a classic up-do. They key is to reference a retro shape like a chignon, bun or beehive and soften with a modern texture.’
