Five things to make you smile brightly for 2018
Switch on the news and it's often unrelenting doom. Thankfully, the worlds of celebrity and showbiz will be providing us with plenty of reasons to smile in the coming year. Here's what we can't wait for...
1. Royal Joy
This spring, the royal family are giving us not just one, but two major reasons to celebrate. In April, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, will welcome their third child. The new baby will be the Queen's sixth great-grandchild.
And the following month we'll really be breaking out the bunting, because it's the big day for Prince Harry. He will marry Meghan Markle on Saturday 19th May at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Flags at the ready!
2. Screen time
Talk about Girl Power! Ocean's 8 is giving us all the joy. It's both a spin-off and sequel to the Ocean's trilogy, with Danny Ocean's estranged sister attempting the heist of the century at the annual celebrity fest that is the Met Gala. The all-star cast includes Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna and Anne Hathaway.
The film will be in cinemas from June 2018, and there are loads more movies to make you smile too. We can't wait for new takes on Mary Poppins, Mama Mia and Jurassic Park, too.
3. Telly treat
And for Girl Power part 2, look no further than Dr Who. For the first time in the program's 55-year history, the lead role of the time travelling timelord will be played by a woman. Although Jodie Whittaker made her debut in the Christmas special, the first full series featuring her as the first female doctor will air in autumn 2018.
Another compelling reason to smile and stay in with the small screen is that a second season of The Handmaid's Tale has been confirmed. Yay!
4. Music megastars
2018 is set to be the year of the pop diva so your ears are in for a real treat. Kylie Minogue is due to return to the world of pop, and there are rumours of new albums by megastars including Ariana Grande, Celine Dion and Britney Spears.
The ladies are hitting the road, too. The hottest tickets around are for Taylor Swift's Reputation tour, alongside tours by Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.
5. All white
