Half-term falls between Saturday February 10-Sunday February 18 or Saturday February 17-Sunday February 25, depending on where you live so be sure to check with your kids' school. The latest Sophie Kinsella book follows young Ella, whose mum can turn into a fairy whenever she shuts her eyes and says "marshmallow". Kids will love this festival that brings history to life through walks, tours, talks, parades and dramatic performances. You will see what Vikings wore, watch them go to battle and even feast with them. Expect a lot of noise during this week-long celebration of York's Norse heritage.

Chinese New Year Parade, Manchester and London

Head to Chinatown in London or Manchester to be a part of the colour and noise that is the Chinese New Year. Welcoming in the year of the dog, look out for the always-spectacular Chinese dragons and gorgeous lanterns that makes this celebration so special.
