The best way to clean windows
You will need:
• Washing up liquid or vinegar
• Spray bottle
• A squeegee
• Water
Forget expensive window cleaning products. Washing up liquid and vinegar remain firm favourites when it comes to getting the grime off your windows. If you’re using washing up liquid, stick to normal washing up liquid (such as Fairy Liquid Original) not antibacterial which can increases streaking. First clean your windows with a solution of washing up liquid and water – just a small amount – you don’t want loads of suds. To remove, hold your squeegee sideways at starting at the top of the window going across and down in an S shape. Wipe your squeegee clean each time you make a swipe. Then make up a solution of 50% vinegar and 50% water and go over the windows again with your squeegee. Never clean your windows in direct sunlight as you’ll end up with streaks.
The best way to clean silver jewellery
You will need:
• Kitchen foil
• Baking soda
• Salt
• Very hot water (be careful if there are children with you)
Combine all the ingredients above in a clean kitchen sink. Add your tarnished silver (and silver-plated) items into the sink, and let them sit there in the solution for a few minutes. Watch as the tarnish disappears from the silverware and reappears on the foil. It’s a natural chemical reaction and the kids will love to see it and learn about science.
The best way to clean your oven
You will need:
• A heatproof bowl
• Water
• Baking soda
• Vinegar
Start by putting your oven on its highest setting and placing a heatproof bowl of water inside it for half an hour. This will begin to loosen any dirt. Leave your oven to dry and then spray it with water. Then spread on a thick layer of baking soda and leave for three hours. When the time is up, spray vinegar on to the baking soda. It will fizz (children will love to watch this). Let it sit for a few more hours (or overnight if you can) and then wipe clean with warm water. Got encrusted grime on oven shelves?
